(l to r) Jovie Duong, 14, Gillian Chau, 14, and Jessie Tran, 14, dancers with the Asian Art Talent Foundation (AATF) wait to perform on stage at the Alhambra Lunar New Year Festival in Alhambra, CA on Sunday, January 29, 2023 one week after the Monterey Park mass shooting.
Brandon Tsay, the 26-year-old widely hailed as a hero for disarming the shooter who killed 11 and injured 10 in Monterey Park, was honored in his east Los Angeles hometown for his actions just over a week ago that almost certainly helped save lives.
Leaders from the city of Alhambra, where Tsay thwarted the shooter at a dance studio his family runs, presented him with a medal of courage on stage at a Lunar New Year festival on Sunday afternoon.
